Although child-centered play therapy is designed to provide freedom and autonomy to children in sessions, it is predicated on building and preserving the therapeutic relationship. In order to protect the relationship, the child must experience safety and security within that relationship, which is achieved through Limit Setting. In this workshop, Dr. Hicks will discuss the difficulty of executing this skill, as it combines three skills in one. This often creates hesitation within therapists, as it can be cumbersome without knowledge and practice. You will gain confidence and competence in the use of this skill in your sessions, as well as the outcomes associated with providing necessary limits in an adherent manner.
